DR. WOOLNER
Dr. Derek Woolner has been practicing dermatology for 22 years in his hometown of Calgary, Alberta. He graduated from the University of Calgary Medical School in 1988 and trained in dermatology and dermatopathology at the University of Chicago. He is an active member of the medical staff at a number of area hospitals including Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed Hospital, Rockyview General Hospital, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
He is a clinical assistant professor at the University of Calgary and is active in teaching medical students and residents in addition to his clinical work.
In 2010, Dr. Woolner opened Northwest Dermatology and Laser Centre to provide medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology care for patients of all ages. Northwest Dermatology and Laser Centre also participates in clinical research studies for dermatological conditions. Dr. Woolner and his staff are pleased to provide new and innovative treatments to their patients.
Dr. Woolner and his wife, Elisabeth, who is a family physician, are kept active with their two children and fulfilling careers in medicine.
DR. CHIA
Dr. Justin Chia completed medical school at the University of Western Ontario and his dermatology residency at the University of Calgary, earning board-certification in Canada and the United States.
Dr. Chia is passionate about patient care, education, and clinical research. He has won major awards for his contributions to dermatology including the Canadian Dermatology Association Residents and Fellows Society Excellence in Resident Teaching Award, the Early Dermatology Researcher Scholarship, as well as the University of Calgary’s P. Regine Mydlarski Research Award. He has also published his research in top international dermatology journals.
Dr. Chia has spent time at both the National Institutes of Health in Maryland and the University of Pennsylvania studying complex and rare dermatologic diseases. He is currently a clinical assistant professor at the University of Calgary and continues to have a strong interest in the diagnosis and treatment of cutaneous lymphomas. He enjoys all aspects of the dermatology field and practices medical, surgical, and aesthetic dermatology.
When not in the office, Dr. Chia enjoys traveling, photography, expanding his culinary skills, and spending time with his lovely wife.

I have had the pleasure of working for Dr. Woolner since 2002 as his receptionist.
I have 2 adult children and grandsons whom I spend all my time off with. In the summer we spend our weekends in the country at our farm.

Hello, my name is Radka. I have been part of Dr. Woolner’s team since 2006. I like working as his medical assistant and enjoy meeting and helping our patients every day.
I am married and have two adult children and a cat. I share my free time with my family and friends. We like to go hiking and paddling in summer, and skiing in winter.

My name is Samantha. I am a Medical Office Assistant and Unit Clerk graduate from SAIT. I am very fortunate to be working with Dr. Chia and starting my career in the field of dermatology.
I was born and raised in Calgary and I love to explore my city and go hiking in the mountains.
Susan
Hello, my name is Susan. I grew up in Edmonton and moved to Calgary in 2006. I first started working in pediatric homecare after graduating from an LPN program in 2004. Since that time I have worked in different areas of dermatology both medical and cosmetic.
I enjoy my family of pets and humans and we like to pursue outdoor activities weather permitting.
Hi, my name is Tami. I have worked in the field of dermatology since 1988. I have learned many things over the years about dermatology and people in general. For the last ten years I have worked with Dr. Woolner as a laser technician. I enjoy our close team atmosphere and we have a lot of fun while helping many people. The field of dermatology is always changing with new technology and new ideas and it is very exciting to be in the forefront.
My husband, son and I love to go camping. We enjoy dirtbiking in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter (when it’s not too cold).
